Description:

Juanita's Foods met its developer obligation by contributing to partial funding of a statue commemorating the achievements of Phineas Banning, a developer from the 1850s-1870s and founder of the Port of Los Angeles. Sculptor Eugene Daub based created this seven-foot tall bronze statue using two old photographs of Phineas Banning.

Artist Profile

Well-known late 20th century sculptor, Eugene Daub has been an instructor at the Scottsdale Artists’ School and is designer of the first Philadelphia Liberty Medal, which the city awards every year to a champion of world peace. In 1985, Daub won first place in an international competition for the design of the Statue of Liberty Medal, issued by the Numismatic Society. His works are in the collections of the Smithsonian Institution and the British Museum. In 1991, he won the Saltus Award, the highest national and international recognition of the American Numismatic Association for excellence in bas-relief sculpture.
