Phineas Banning Memorial
2004
Project Area: Los Angeles Harbor/Wilmington
Project: Juanita's Foods Phase I
Project Location: Banning's Landing Community Center, 100 East Water Street
Project Type: Developer
Description:
Using two old photographs of Phineas Banning, sculptor Eugene Daubs created this seven-foot tall bronze statue to commemorate Banning's many achievements. Phineas Banning, a developer from the 1850s-1870s, was founder of the Port of Los Angeles. Daub portrayed Banning with his sleeves rolled up and a coil of rope slung over one shoulder to capture his industrious nature. At the base of the statue, Daub created four reliefs depicting Banning's various activities.
