Description:

Artist Adam Leventhal in collaboration with the residents and workers of Downtown Los Angeles transformed an empty lot on the southeast corner of Olympic and Hope into a large community garden. When the garden project came to a close to make way for a new housing complex, the entry gates were saved and transferred to Angels Knoll Plaza at the SE corner of Fourth and Hill Streets.

Artist Profile

Los Angeles-based artist Adam Leventhal (1958-2000) created projects that incorporated his interest in working closely with the community.  In 1989, Leventhal was granted funding from LACE (Los Angeles Contemporary Exhibitions) to create Homeless Sculpture Collaboration.  In addition to the public artworks by Leventhal in Los Angeles, the artist’s works are also in the public collections of Cola Corporate Headquarters, Atlanta; Boise Airport, Idaho; and Newport News, Virginia.  The A. Leventhal School, which teaches the fundamentals of blacksmithing, has been founded in Pasadena, California in honor of the artist.
