Description:

At W Hollywood Hotel & Residences, Erwin Redl installed a vast canopy of white LED lights that soars overhead, beginning at the Argyle entrance and continuing through the covered drive into the open motor court.  This installation features nearly 40,000 white lights aligned on a 6 inch grid.  The result is a sparkling sense of arrival for guests and visitors, and from the pedestrian viewpoint, this canopy will help minimize the proximity and height of surrounding buildings.

Artist Profile

Erwin Redl received a Fulbright scholarship for MFA studies in Computer Art at the School of Visual Arts, New York, NY. He also has a BA in Composition from the Music Academy, Vienna, Austria and a Diploma in Electronic Music, Music Academy, Vienna, Austria. He was the recipient of the New York Foundation for the Arts, Award for Architecture & Environmental Structures as well as completed a residency at the Chianti Foundation, Marfa, TX. He has received countless awards and his work has been shown worldwide, and most recently at the Geffen Contemporary as part of their Ecstasy: Altered States exhibition.
