Description:

"x-Ray Eyes" is a rear screen LCD projected animation loop that fills the curved window detail suspended off the super truss of the building. Signaling nighttime activity at the Center, the colorful and vibrant imagery fill the window. The artist's three abstract animation loops are the first use of computer generated moving light imagery for a building in Southern California.

Artist Profile

Jennifer Steinkamp is an artist who experiments with video and new media in order to explore architectural space, motion, and perception. Steinkamp has received numerous grants and fellowships from the following organizations: California Community Foundation, J. Paul Getty Trust Fund, California Arts Council, City of Los Angeles Individual Artist Fellowship Award, National Endowment for the Arts, the Andy Warhol Foundation for the Visual Arts, the City of Savannah Department of Cultural Affairs, and the Seattle Art Commission.  Individual exhibitions of the artist’s work have been featured at the Los Angeles Contemporary Exhibitions; San Jose Museum of Art; Kemper Museum of Contemporary Art, Kansas City; Albright-Knox Gallery; Telfair Museum of Art, Savannah; and the Museum of Contemporary Art, Miami.  Steinkamp has also exhibited at the Museum of Contemporary Art, Los Angeles; San Antonio Museum of Art; Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden, Smithsonian Institution, Washington DC; Columbus Museum of Art; Taipei Biennial, Taipei, China; Istanbul Modern, Turkey; and MUSAC, Museo de Arte Contemporo de Castilla y Le Madrid, Spain. The artist lives and works in Los Angeles.
