Description:

Hollywood and Vine is a series of eight animations created by artist Jennifer Steinkamp. Each animation references a specific star on a block of the Vine section of the Walk of Fame in front of this development – Orson Wells, Cary Grant, Donna Reed, Jane Wyman, Ray Millard, Margaret O’Brien, William Bendix, and Audrey Hepburn. For each star, Steinkamp selected a classic film that showcases flowers in some manner. The variety of flowers that appear in the respective films were then digitally modeled and assembled into each of the animations you see here. This series pays tribute to the great actors memorialized here as well as Hollywood’s talented Art Directors and Set Decorators.

Artist Profile

Born in 1958 in Denver, Colorado, Steinkamp was raised in Minneapolis, Minnesota. She attended the Art Center College of Design in Pasadena, California, for both undergraduate and graduate work, earning her BFA in 1989 and her MFA in 1991. Since 1989, Steinkamp’s work has consistently featured abstract imagery that often mimics natural phenomena such as gravity, turbulence, and wind. She is a recipient of numerous grants including NEA, Art Matters Inc., COLA, and California Arts Council. Her work can be found in the permanent collections at Albright Knox Gallery, Museum of Contemporary Art, Los Angeles, and Corcoran Gallery Art among others. The artist lives and works in Los Angeles.
