Artist Profile
Mineko Grimmer was born in Hanamaki, Iwate Prefecture, Japan. After receiving a BA from Iwate University and working as a commercial artist, she moved to Los Angeles where she earned a BFA and MFA from the Otis College of Art and Design. Grimmer received a California Community Foundation award in 1999 from the J. Paul Getty Trust Fund for the Visual Arts. She has also been granted artist-in-residencies at Indiana University and Lafayette College as well as an Auckland International Artist-in-Residence in New Zealand. Works by Grimmer are in the permanent collections of the Smithsonian Institute, Washington, D.C. and the High Museum of Art in Atlanta, Georgia. In addition to her public artworks, she collaborates with artists all over the world to create inclusive works that incorporate sound, dance, and sculpture. The artist lives and works in Los Angeles.
