Description:

Two tall brightly painted steel abstract sculptures. One sculpture is a tower of green triangles placed at angles along a black and white pole. At the top is a yellow and red disc with various shapes protruding from it at right angles. The second sculpture has blue and white quadrilateral shapes on a white center pole. Located off interior plaza and vehicle entrance.

Artist Profile

Peter Shire is most recognized for his ceramic teapots, sculptures, and architectural collaborations.  The artist is one of the original members of the Memphis group, who challenged the rigidity of modernist vocabulary and in turn boldly articulated a language defined by the unexpected visual dialogue between form and surface and between technology and aesthetics.  Shire’s work is in the public collections of Los Angeles County Museum of Art; San Francisco Museum of Modern Art; Laguna Art Museum; Brooklyn Museum of Art; Seattle Museum of Art; Victoria and Albert Museum, London; the Israel Museum, Jerusalem; and Judisches Museum, Frankfurt.  He is a graduate of the Chouinard Art Institute in Los Angeles has his art studio located in the Echo Park area of Los Angeles.
