Description:

One of three concrete wall relief niches located on the wall of the Academy’s screening theater building. This likeness of Steve Allen shows him sitting at his piano.  A man of many of talents, Steve Allen was also a prolific composer.

Artist Profile

Richard H. Ellis’ artwork reflects an abiding passion for sculptural portraiture.   Ellis received formal training at Otis College of Art and Design where he graduated in 1963 with an MFA in Sculpture with Distinction. The artist was awarded two “Prix de Rome” Fellowships, which expanded his appreciation of the contribution of public sculpture to the quality of life in Europe.  Ellis has been commissioned to complete several portraits for the Academy of Television Arts and Sciences and the Ahmanson Foundation.  In 2002, the artist created the “Bob Hope Humanitarian Award” sculpture which was presented to Oprah Winfrey.  The artist lives and works in Elliston, Montana.
