Artist Profiles

Tony Berlant studied at the University of California, Los Angeles, where he received his MA and MFA, and went on to teach in UCLA’s Art Department. He received early recognition in 1960, when art critic Clement Greenberg selected one of his paintings for inclusion in an exhibition of Los Angeles area artists at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art. Berlant’s work is represented in many private and public collections including the Whitney Museum of American Art; Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden; and Los Angeles’ County Museum of Art and the Museum of Contemporary Art.  Major public commissions include Fox Network Center, Los Angeles; San Francisco Airport; the Minneapolis Institute of Art; the Mayo Clinic; and Target Corporation.

Michigan-born artist Gwynn Murrill received her formal art training at the University of California, Los Angeles where she earned an MFA in 1972.  Murrill’s bronze sculptures take on the subject of animals, domestic and wild, displayed in lyrical and natural poses.  During her career, the artist has been awarded a Guggenheim Fellowship, a National Endowment for the Arts Individual Artist Grant, and a Prix di Roma Fellowship.  Significant commissions include the Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandizing, Los Angeles; Norton Simon Museum, Pasadena; San Francisco Zoo; Target Corporation, Minneapolis; Pearson Airport, Toronto, Canada; and the Embassy of the United States of America, Singapore.  The artist lives and works in Los Angeles.
