The Pacific Corridor Redevelopment Project is located in the portside community of San Pedro, at the terminus of the 110 Harbor Freeway. The Redevelopment plan was adopted by City Council on May 1, 2002. It is approximately 25 miles south of downtown Los Angeles, immediately west of World Port Los Angeles, the largest container cargo terminal in the United States; seven miles west of Downtown Long Beach and two miles east of Palos Verdes Peninsula.

The Project Area contains approximately 693 acres, is irregularly shaped and generally bounded by North Capitol Drive on the north; Gaffey Street on the west; 22nd Street on the south and Harbor Boulevard on the east. The area is adjacent to the existing Beacon Street Redevelopment Project established in 1969.

San Pedro began as a maritime community in 1769 with a rich heritage tied to fishing and sea borne commerce and is among the oldest parts of Los Angeles. In 1996, the Agency initiated a study to examine the Community’s issues and problems, explore ways to reverse the physical and economic decline and identify revitalization strategies for Pacific Avenue, the once prominent downtown of San Pedro.
