The
Watts Redevelopment Project is located in South Los Angeles, east of the Harbor Freeway. The 107-acre Watts Project area’s generally boundaries are Success Avenue on the west, Wilmington Avenue on the east, 104th Street on the south, and Century Boulevard on the north.
Approved in 1969, the Redevelopment Plan provided for the development of new, affordable housing for low income families and the elderly, neighborhood shopping facilities, convenient public services and public improvements including new streets, sidewalks, railroad crossings, new utility systems, improved street lighting, street trees and a middle school student safe-crossing pedestrian overpass spanning the MTA Blue Line.
